Acupuncture is part of a 3000 year old Chinese medical system that removes energy blockages, boosts the immune system, calms the nervous system and the mind, and restores balance to all systems of the body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory

According to TCM theory, acupuncture aims to balance the flow of energy, known as “Qi” (pronounced “chee”) through pathways called meridians in the body. It is believed that illness and pain occur when there is an imbalance or blockage in the flow of Qi. By inserting needles into specific points along the meridians, acupuncturists aim to restore the balance of Qi and promote healing.

 Neurotransmitter and Hormonal Effects:

Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving substances and well as serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with mood regulation. It has also been shown to trigger the body’s natural healing mechanism and can cause changes in the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, and immune responses.
